So the other day I got an e-mail from an old friend/roommate who I had lost contact with since I first moved to Florida. If of course knew what she was going to ask without even opening it. Are you married yet? Or engaged? Kids? Sure enough there it was staring me in the face in the e-mail. She of course is now married and was returning to work on Monday from maternity leave.
I am not surprised when I did live with her for that short time she was that girl who wanted desperately to be married and have children. Now, don't get me wrong I want those things too but i'm not in a rush, I figure it will all happen for me when it is meant to and obviously it hasn't happened yet. I have always told myself I would never settle I have seen so many people my age do that or follow the "life course" of college then get married and now they are divorced.
I took my own path which lead me away from home, a path of self discovery that I am enjoying every minute of. I was so lost back then and i'm finally getting a good grip on what makes me, ME. For a split second though I fell into that oh god I have to write her back and say, no I'm still single (this was the day the guy in my life decided he didn't feel that spark). But then I thought about some words that my friends mom always says "Stand on your soap box and be proud" I am proud, I'm proud to say I moved away, that I'm living on my own, standing on my own two feet and who the hell cares that i'm 29 and not married!! If she does then so be it, obviously she wasn't that great of a friend that I haven't spoken to her in almost 3 years! The older I get the more I firmly believe that each person comes into your life for a reason, a season or a lifetime, it's just figuring out how to categorize each one.
